Advancements in the dental industry make achieving a better smile more convenient.
Today patients can have their teeth filled using natural-looking materials. If you’re concerned about your tooth fillings looking obvious, we have dental solutions available for you at Rundle Dental. We offer tooth coloured fillings for our patients to restore the health and function of their teeth.
If you have existing fillings that are already worn, we can remove and replace them for you.
Here are the types of tooth coloured fillings that can help preserve your beautiful smile:
Porcelain fillings. Porcelain is one of the most common materials used at the dental office. Although more costly than other materials, porcelain is hard and long-lasting. It is also the same colour as our natural teeth. The downside with porcelain, though, is that it’s brittle. Hence, it’s not usually recommended for teeth, such as molars, that are used for biting hard. Porcelain fillings are created for you at the dental lab. The procedure will require at least two appointments with your dentist.
Composite fillings. Also called white or plastic fillings, composite fillings are also the same color as our natural pearly whites. They are applied directly on your teeth so a single visit to the dental office is usually enough. Composite fillings also cost less than other filling materials. To apply them, your dentist first removes decay from your tooth. Once this is done, a bonding material is placed on the hole and then the composite resin is applied in thin layers. The filling is then hardened using a special light. The final step is polishing so the filling will look natural on you.
Glass Ionomer. If you would like to address decay on a tooth that is not used for biting hard, then glass ionomer fillings may be a good option for you. As is the case with other fillings, your dentist cleans up the area first, making sure all decay is removed. Once this is done, the glass ionomer is applied on the cavity. Unlike other fillings, this material doesn’t have to be applied in layers and is only allowed to set. Since application is direct, the procedure can be finished in one dental visit. This tooth-coloured filling also looks natural, however, it’s not as durable as other fillings.
Your dentist can help you identify the best material to use for your dental fillings. If you are concerned about treatment costs, please don’t hesitate to ask us about possible financing options. At Rundle Dental, we want to make sure that patients don’t hold back from getting dental care they need, thinking it’s too costly.
Our team will help you look into low monthly payments that you can afford.
