Comprehensive Oral Exam

Evaluating Health of Your Smile: Comprehensive Oral Exams

At Rundle Dental, we perform comprehensive oral exams to evaluate the status of your oral health. Through routine check-ups, we can detect and diagnose potential dental issues.

What is a Dental Oral Exam?

A dental exam consists of several procedures. It helps to familiarise yourself with what you can expect as you visit the dental office. This way, you’ll also feel more comfortable seeing your dentist.  To help you out, we’ll share with you the steps involved in an oral evaluation in this post.

Procedures Involved in Routine Dental Exams:

First, we introduce you to our dental team. We also get to know you better. Our goal is to help you feel at ease while in our practice.

For kids, first meetings will most likely be about establishing rapport. It’s important for us to ensure that you feel confident about working with us.  In this regard, we request that you also let us know what you expect from your dental treatments. Here we will also discuss any treatment plans you may be interested in.

The next part of your dental exam is all about your health history. Your dentist will obtain your comprehensive oral and medical history. Please advise the dental team if you are taking any medications at the moment or have any particular medical conditions.

Gathering data about your health history will help guide us in creating your treatment plans. We have to see how your current health condition may impact your dental treatments. We’ll also be asking about your dietary choices and habits. Your lifestyle can influence your risk of getting dental cavities.

Please note that apart from your mouth, we’ll also be examining its surrounding structures. This includes your neck and jaw. Through this, we’ll be able to see if you are at risk for any joint issues. We’ll also examine soft tissues in your mouth. Your tongue, lips, cheeks, and gums will all be examined. We’ll see if you need the services of a specialist and refer you for further assistance.

Of course the main focus of our dental exam is your teeth. We’ll take a look at any dental work you have to see if they’re still in good shape. We’ll also see which other diagnostic exams you may need such as x-rays. We will also check your bite.

Please refer to this list,
Provided by the Canadian Dental Association on details you need to share with your dentist.

Once we have all information we need, then we can move to planning your dental treatment.
